Family Love band -
MidWest
Tour 1977
After months of performing in the Military Circuit on the Island,
drummer Phung Thuan left the band and was replaced with Bobby de la
Cruz. Then, Family Love was booked to appear at the Hale Makai showroom
in Waikiki for a month contract. At that time, bass player Quoc Hung
also quit, and Mike Usam was introduced to the band by Bobby to replace
him. With Mike and Bobby joining force, the band rehearsed every other
day, practiced dance routines and polished on harmonizing while
performing nightly at the Oasis to prepare for Mid-West tour that
manager Lee Maynard has set up. Lê Toàn (Antoine) also took Trumpet
lessons during that time. The band put together 2 sets of floor-shows, including
songs from the 50's to the 70's, with spectacular songs like 'Theme from Star
Wars' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody', plus several Medleys and comedy acts... The whole
family flew to California in June 77, bought a truck and a station-wagon, then
drove across states for a 9-month-tour, non-stop...
